Organizing Tips for Your Kitchen
Maximize the space in your kitchen by installing pull out drawers for the bottom cabinets!   It helps bring the back of the cabinet to the front when you can pull out the whole storage space and have access to all the items in that space.

If you're forever searching for the potato peeler or bottle opener, get drawer organizers or dividers to section off your utensil drawers in the kitchen.  Put the most frequently used items in their own section of a well divided drawer and less frequently used items in another drawer.   Then the item that you grab for the most is the easiest to find!

As soon as you buy vegetables, wash, chop, and then store them in plastic containers.  Doing it all at once saves on the total amount of time cutting veggies each week.

When it comes to storing leftovers or other food items, use square plastic containers instead of plastic bags.  Most plastic containers can go in the dishwasher as opposed to bags that have to be washed by hand.  Also take into consideration that if you toss plastic bags after each use, they fill the landfills with unnecessary waste.

Find 1 or 2 environmentally friendly cleaning products that do the majority of jobs around your house or office.  It will save space under the sink and it saves time since you are not getting out and putting away a bunch of different products during your cleaning process.

Do you feel like you make the same grocery list out every week?  Here's an idea that will save time while writing the list and shopping at the store!  Make a printed grocery list of your most frequently purchased items in the order you find them at the store.  Then copy & check off what you will get.  (Even better, get a laminated one so you can reuse it each week.  Staple the list inside a folder so it doesn't smear off before you get to the store.)

If your kitchen cabinets feel cramped, get rid of multiple products and gadgets with the same use.  If you only use one at a time, keep the best one and donate the rest!

If you love to cut out recipes or print them off the internet, create a hanging file folder system in the kitchen for recipes.  Then you can easily divide them by course, dietary needs, and holiday or even by meal combinations that are favorites!

If you want to maximize your space in the refrigerator and in the cupboard with plastic storage containers, use square storage containers.  Squares will stack or fit together better than round ones.

Saving seconds can add up to saving minutes!  When loading the dishwasher, place like silverware in the same compartment.  Then when you unload the dishwasher, you can grab all the forks and put them away in one movement.

- Nestlé USA (Glendale, CA) is part of international food giant Nestlé S.A. (Vevey, Switzerland). The company's slogan is "good food, good life," and its products are found in nearly every food and beverage category.

Karen Blackwell manages supplier development and diversity at Nestlé USA. The company's buyers, she says, are clearly "the people who have the most opportunity to make a difference in supplier diversity," but she's part of that solution, too, with supplier diversity as her sole responsibility.

"My role is to help the buyers implement supplier diversity strategies," she says. "I help them identify diverse companies and identify opportunities for bringing them in. We sit down together and work out a strategy to make it happen."
